Go IN for Fred Hutch

Come hear about mind blowing cancer research happening at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, directly from the source, while mixing and mingling with some of the boldest and brightest in Seattle. You will be joined by Innovators Network (IN) members and their friends- a group of young professionals interested in saving lives faster by funding innovative early-stage research at Fred Hutch. IN members’ support helps launch new research projects up to 6 times faster than research funded by government grants alone.
Join us for this complimentary happy hour and get a sneak peek into what makes Fred Hutch one of the most ground breaking research centers in the world. Over drinks and bites, you will hear from two scientists who work on the front lines in the fight against cancer.
Meet the Scientists:
Seth Pollack, M.D.
Seth is working to adopting immunotherapy (where you use your own immune system to fight cancer) for new solutions for sarcoma patients, a cancer of the bone and soft tissues. When he’s not seeing patients as a doc at the Seattle Cancer Alliance, Seth is busy in his lab at Fred Hutch, harnessing the power of the immune system. He’ll share with you at the event how he is engineering patient’s T cells and breaking down the barriers to fight cancer more effectively.
Heather Cheng, M.D., Ph.D.
We all know that some families have a higher than average risk for certain cancers, due to inherited mutations in their genes. We hear stories in the media about women like Angelina Jolie, who took a bold step to reduce her chance of a future breast or ovarian cancer diagnosis with a preventative double mastectomy, because she carries mutations in her BRCA1/2 genes. Fred Hutch’s Dr. Heather Cheng is working furiously in her lab, to see how gene mutations might predispose someone to a cancer diagnosis. Heather has found that men with metastatic prostate cancer are five times likelier to harbor the same inherited mutations in BRCA1/2. Armed with this knowledge, patients can choose more tailored made treatment options and their children can be screened to see if they harbor the mutations, and can seek out early screening to prevent a diagnosis.
This is a unique opportunity to connect with other young business and industry leaders while learning about cutting-edge research taking place at Fred Hutch. RSVP today! Must be 21+ to attend.
