Seattle’s Makers Inspire Local Economy

Moo-Young
Seattle’s local makers and manufacturers are as talented as they are diverse. Fashion designer Francine Moo-Young, for example, treats the blemishes and scars in her leathers as objects of beauty rather than remnants to be forgotten. Meanwhile, James Elliot over at Filigree draws inspiration from his favorite musicians to design his 100% vegan perfumes.
On Saturday October 8, Filigree, Moo-Young Designs and more than 25 other local producers are storming KEXP’s new digs for the inaugural Seattle Made Market Day, one of several public events that are part of Seattle Made Week. From 11am-4pm, shop jewelry, swag for the kids, outdoor gear, housewares, paper goods, artwork, and accessories all made right here in Seattle. The first 100 attendees to the event receive swag bags of goods from the makers.
Presented by BECU, Seattle Made Market Day encourages locals to discover local makers and take an active part in creating a vibrant and diverse local economy, one that sustains jobs and showcases the region’s unique local talent. BECU members who come get a special “thank you” treat from local maker Theo Chocolate.
Seattle Made Market Day is just one of many events during Seattle Made Week (October 7- October 16), a celebration of the huge variety of products made right here in Seattle, and the people who make them. Other events include the Taste of Seattle Made Party, Brewers Night at Flatstick Pub, the Future of Urban Manufacturing at Outdoor Research, Demo Day at MOHAI, and other pops and events at places like West Elm and Central Co-op. Details and tickets are available at seattlemade.org.
Seattle Made is a collaborative initiative to grow and support our urban manufacturing and producer economy. Through the program, over 350 Seattle-based businesses, makers of everything from bikes to beer to biodiesel, are working together to find and share the resources they need to succeed. Seattle Made is organized by the non-profit Seattle Good Business Network.
