A Behind the Scenes Look at Cheryl Ingram's Portrait

See how we used a chocolate box (yes, really) to get the final shot.

Whenever I work with Brandon Hill I know he’s going to push us in an unexpected direction. For the portrait of diversity expert Cheryl Ingram (“Cheryl Ingram Brings Diversity Training to the Modern Workplace") he enlisted his talented intern, Rihana Jones (pictured above), to create a multilayered, hand-painted backdrop. Knowing I wanted a nod to the “lens” through which we all see the world, Brandon researched and learned how to achieve a fractured effect by shooting through the beveled lids of a certain brand of chocolates. Yes, a box of chocolates. Like in Forrest Gump. And as with that packaged confection, with Brandon you never know what you’re going to get. But it’s going to be great.
