PubliCalendar: Transit Talks

Today's picks for civic nerds

By Darren Davis January 9, 2015

For Friday

Transit Talks

Transportation Choices, the non-profit transit advocacy group, this week launches Transit Talks: a quarterly lunchtime forum in which policy makers and industry savants unpack the relevant transit issues of the day.

If Friday's panelists are any indication, these Transit Talks are going to include a who's-who of policy experts: Amy Scarton, WSDOT assistant secretary, Community and Economic Development; transportation committee member state Sen. Marko Liias (D-21, Edmonds), and Rep. Jessyn Farrell (D-46, N. Seattle), vice chair of the House Transportation Committee.

Transit Talks, Fri, Jan 9, 12pm, Parsons Brinckerhoff Office, 999 Third Ave, Suite 3200, Free

For Sunday

Visionary Viewings Film Series: The Koch Brothers Exposed

Billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch (referred to as simply the "Koch Brothers") have taken on a persona of contemporary robber barons. It seems every controversial conservative move invariably reveals some instance of the brothers enacting their political influence.

The Koch Brothers Exposed is a Brave New Films documentary by Robert Greenwald that chronicles the various Koch political activities in a fairly unflattering manner. The documentary is accompanied by guest speaker Mark M. McDermott, activist, civil servant and lecturer.

The Koch Brothers Exposed, Sun, Jan 11, 4pm, UW-Savery Hall, 4100 Spokane Ln NE, $20

For Monday

37th District Democrats Meeting

The 37th Legislative District in Washington State includes Ranier Valley, Central District, Columbia City, Beacon Hill, Capitol Hill, SODO, and more. Compared to, say, the 41st District (Bellevue, Mercer Island), the good ol' 37th is a rather diverse smattering of neighborhoods with a wide variety of legislative needs and concerns.

To address these needs and concerns, the 37th District Democrats meet on the second Monday of each month. Hear from some or all of the district's representatives, including Reps. Sharon Tomiko Santos , Eric Pettigrew, and U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott.

37th District Democrats Meeting, Mon, Jan 12, 7:30pm, Rainier Valley Cultural Center at 3515 S. Alaska St, Free
