PubliCalendar: The Affordable Housing Agenda

For Thursday
Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda Community Open House
The third and final community open house for Mayor Murray's recently established Housing Affordability and Livability Advisory Committee takes place in Northgate. As I wrote last month, it's clear to see there is a decent effort on the committee's part to be transparent about its agenda (in short, affordable housing = stronger city), and the data its using to move forward with that agenda.
That being said, these community open houses remain an opportunity for the people to get their voice in beyond all the data and the agenda bullet points. As 2014 was the year of the $15 minimum wage, 2015 will be the year of the affordable housing battle. So gear up.
Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda Community Open House, Thu, Dec 4, 6pm, Olympic View Elementary, 504 NE 95th St, Free

Explaining U.S. Immigration Policy
In her book Enrique's Journey, Pulitzer Prize winner Sonia Nazario tells the story of one boy's trek from Honduras to the U.S. He is just one of thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America who attempt to enter the states every year. Many of these immigrants end up in Washington state.
Nazario talks about her book, followed by a panel discussion featuring Jorge L. Barón, Executive Director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project; Larkin VanDerhoef, Northwest Regional Board Member; NPH USA; and moderator Marc McLeod, Director of the Latin American Studies program at Seattle University.
Explaining U.S. Immigration Policy, Thu, Dec 4, 7–9pm, Seattle University-Piggott Auditorium, 901 12th Ave, $10

Seattle Radio Theatre: The Bishop’s Wife
A simple holiday joy to end a pretty tumultuous few weeks. Seattle Radio Theatre's production of the radio play The Bishop's Wife features live music, local radio personalities, and analog sound effects (I'm picturing lots of sleigh bells, crinkling of things in bags, maybe even two coconut halves for galloping horses).
John Curley stars as Carey Grant's role in the 1947 film about an angel sent to earth to help build a local cathedral. But since the angel is played by Carey Grant he ends up spending more time with, you guessed it, the bishop's wife.
Seattle Radio Theatre: The Bishop’s Wife, Fri, Dec 5, 8pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5–$15
