Marc Solomon: "Winning Marriage" Equality
Over half the states in the U.S. have now legalized same-sex marriage, and the battle rages onward toward across-the-board legalization. Marc Solomon, national campaign director for Freedom to Marry, has been in the trenches throughout this sea change.
His book, Winning Marriage, chronicles his efforts to protect human rights for same-sex couples. At his reading and discussion, Solomon will reflect on this progress, talk about how far we have to go (with 10 states currently appealing same sex marriage bans in appellate level courts) and why he believes proponents in the marriage equality issue will eventually win.
Marc Solomon: "Winning Marriage" Equality, Mon, Dec 1, 7:30pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5

Town Hall on Gender Pay Equity
Seattle is not an exception to the gender pay gap. According to U.S. census data, women in Seattle make 73 percent of what men do. That's compared to the national average, 78 percent, and less than our local average from the previous year, which was 79 percent.
The Seattle City Council, state Rep. Tana Senn (D-41, Mercer Island), Moms Rising, The Economic Opportunity Institute and others present this Town Hall-style discussion aimed at debunking the myths and explaining the harsh truths behind the struggle for gender pay equality.
Town Hall on Gender Pay Equity, Tues, Dec 2, 5:30pm, Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, 104 17th Ave S, Free

Explaining U.S. Immigration Policy
In her book Enrique's Journey, Pulitzer Prize winner Sonia Nazario tells the story of one boy's journey from Honduras to the U.S. He is just one of thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America who attempt to enter the states every year. Many of these immigrants end up in Washington state.
Nazario talks about her book, followed by a panel discussion featuring Jorge L. Barón, Executive Director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Larkin VanDerhoef, Northwest Regional Board Member, NPH USA, and moderator Marc McLeod, Director of the Latin American Studies program at Seattle University.
