21 Acres: Yes, You Can!
Sure, Seattle doesn't exactly experience debilitating winters (yet) where food is scarce. But that doesn't mean you can't participate in the tradition of seasonal food preservation.
The 21 Acres Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living has a skilled kitchen team and a dietitian on hand to show you to safely can food and improve your nutrition through the gray months. It's all analog at 21 Acres. No pressure canners. Just the way grandma did it.

Cal Anderson Day
Cal Anderson was many things: Vietnam veteran, activist, political aide to city council members and Seattle mayors. As a member of the Washington House of Representatives and ultimately a state senator, Anderson was our first openly gay state legislator. Anderson died of AIDS-related illness in 1995.
On Cal Anderson Day, take a moment to reflect on the man and celebrate how far we've come as a state since his tenure as state senator and leading figurehead. The park with his namesake is also pretty this time of year.
Cal Anderson Day, Sun, Nov 9, Various locations, Free
For Monday
R.M. Campbell on Seattle's Civic, Artistic History
Do you know of the Beer and Culture Society, the group of thinkers who would eventually become Allied Arts? Ever heard of Allied Arts? They only helped usher in a city-wide artistic and cultural transformation starting in the 1950s.
R.M. Campbell was an original member of Allied Arts and has written a book about it: Stirring Up Seattle: Allied Arts in the Civic Landscape. He is joined by another original Allied Arts member, Mary Coney, as well as Town Hall founder David Brewster, and former Seattle mayor Wes Uhlman to discuss the importance of citizen activism.
R.M. Campbell with David Brewster, Mon, Nov 10, 7:30pm, Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave, $5
