Elevating Health in Regional Transportation Planning

Concerned over how the city is (or is not) allocating cash throughout the transit system? What about how public transportation affects your personal wellbeing? If you are reading PubliCalendar, the answer is likely yes.

Sit in on a conversation with the Puget Sound Regional Council and national experts on the topics of public spending and transportation priorities, specifically how transportation design and planning impacts human health. Case studies and best practices are up for discussion, probably including a lineup of cities that are doing the whole public transit thing better than we are.

Elevating Health in Regional Transportation Planning, Thu, Nov 6, 1–5pm, PSRC Board Room 1011, Western Ave, Ste 500, Fre

21 Acres: Yes, You Can!

Sure, Seattle doesn't exactly experience debilitating winters (yet) where food is scarce. But that doesn't mean you can't participate in the tradition of seasonal food preservation.

The 21 Acres Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living has a skilled kitchen team and a dietitian on hand to show you to safely can food and improve your nutrition through the gray months. It's all analog at 21 Acres. No pressure canners. Just the way grandma did it.

21 Acres: Yes, You Can!, Fri, Nov 7, 6:30–8:30pm, 21 Acres Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living, 13701 NE 171st St, $15

Advance Notice for November 13

Screening of The Delano Manongs

While it is Cesar Chavez who is most known for helping form the United Farm Workers Union, the movement itself closely tied to Chicano movement of the 1960s, Filipino farm workers also played a pivotal roll holding the torch for worker's rights.

The Delano Manongs is a short documentary that tells the story of the Delano grape strike of 1965, when the largely Filipino work force walked off the job in demand of equal pay, to be eventually joined by Chavez's then called National Farmworkers Association. The film will be followed by a discussion with the director and a community panel.

Screening of 'The Delano Manongs,' Thu, Nov 13, 6pm, UW Ethnic Cultural Theater, 3931 Brooklyn Ave NE, Free
