Calling All Batteries
Clear out your desk drawers and bring your old batteries to Westlake Park for Call2Recycle's battery recycling event this Friday. In an effort to reduce toxic waste from discarded batteries, Mayor Mike McGinn proclaimed the first Battery Recycling Day last year. This year, John Curley of Evening Magazine will challenge recyclers to "tip the scale", or, deposit more batteries than their body weight.

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is shaking things up at this year's Power of Choice Awards: Instead of the usual sit-down dinner, this year's event will be a swanky cocktail soiree, held in the century-old Dome Room ballroom at the top of the Arctic Club Hotel. This year's Power of Choice award winner is former Gov. Christine Gregoire; the keynote speaker is New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Walker, the biracial, feminist author of Black White and Jewish and Baby Love, among other books.
