For Friday
The Past and Future of Civil Engineering
During this weekend's (perhaps inauspiciously timed) UW National Student Steel Bridge Competition, the brightest student engineers from around the country will compete in model bridge construction at the University of Washington Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
During the competition, viewers can take an in-depth look at the construction of Washington's greatest engineering feats in celebration of The American Society of Civil Engineers Seattle Section's centennial, honoring the civil engineers behind the Ballard Locks, the Stevens Pass railroad tunnels, the hydroelectric project at Snoqualmie Falls, and more.
2013 National Student Steel Bridge Competition, Fri, May 31– Sat, June 1, schedule of events online, Hec Edmundson Pavilion, University of Washington, 3870 Montlake Blvd NE, free.
For Tomorrow
A Progressive Party
The tenants at the Vance Building invite you to their annual open house, the Tour de Vance.
Office-hop from floor to floor and drop in for food, drink, and lefty conspiring at the offices of Fuse, Sightline Institute, the Washington Environmental Council, Progressive Majority, the Progress Alliance of Washington, Capitol Hill Housing, Win-Win Network, the Washington Budget & Policy Center, and many more.
The Tour de Vance. Thurs, May 30, 5:30-7:30pm, Vance Building, 1402 3rd Ave, free.
And For Today
Streetcar Strategy
The construction team that's building the new streetcar line in the International District will be on hand to answer all your questions about the construction schedule and its impact on the neighborhood. Plus, tea!
Tea with the Streetcar Contractor, Wed, May 29, 4-6pm, Asian Resource Center, 1025 S King St., free.
