Today’s picks for political and civic nerds.

For Thursday:

Never Too Cool for School

Join Seattle City Council members and local business leaders at the opening for the Northeastern University's foray into Puget Sound. Learn all about degree programs in everything from nonprofit management to nursing.

Northeastern University's Seattle Campus Open House, Thu Jan 17, 4–7pm, Northeastern University – Seattle, 401 Terry Ave N, free.

For Wednesday:

Education Without Borders

The World Affairs Council brings a fresh perspective to our city’s somewhat depressing education situation. Representatives from all over the world—and nerds like you—will discuss current issues and potential solutions in the North American and Asian educational systems.

Education Without Borders: Transforming Learning for the 21st Century, Wed Jan 16, 4:30–7:30pm, Seattle Children’s Theatre, 201 Thomas St, free.

I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar… For Trees

Seattle-born writer Nancy Unger explores the history of women's distinctive and often marginalized relationship with the natural world in the context of a male-dominated ecoparadigm. Basically, girl power plus trees.

American Women in Environmental History, Wed Jan 16, 7:30–9pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5.

And for Today:

Cool Moms vs. a Hot Planet

CoolMom—a West Seattle sustainability club—presents its parent-oriented “Think Outside the Car” project, rescheduled from its original date in December. Watch a video about the program, nibble on snacks, and learn more about green parenthood. Child care provided; donations requested.

CoolMom's 'Think Outside the Car' Celebration, Tue Jan 15, 6:30–8:30pm, Fauntleroy Church UCC, 9140 California Ave SW, free.
