Today's picks for political and civic nerds.

With Seth Sommerfeld By Katie Vincent December 17, 2012

With only five days left until the end of the world, now is the time to see Children of Men and learn survival strategies.

Today's picks for political and civic nerds.

For Wednesday:

For Those Who Crave Apocalypse

If the Mayans were right, this will be our last film festival, so we might as well make the most of it. SIFF offers up a slew of apocalyptic visions committed to celluloid. Tonight, enjoy Children of Men, in which Clive Owen battles an infertility epidemic that leaves humanity on the brink of collapse.

The End of the World As We Know It: Apocalypse Film Festival, Wed Dec 19, 9pm, SIFF Cinema at the Uptown, 511 Queen Anne Ave N, $9-$10.

For Tuesday:

LGBTQ For Penal Peace

Promote peace and understanding as you help the Seattle Police Department make sense of you and your non-heteronormativity. Located in the first floor meeting room.

LGBTQ Police Advisory Council Meeting, Tue Dec 18, 6pm, Admission and Alumni Bldg., Seattle University, 824 12th Ave, free.

And for Today:

Cool Moms Against Hot Planets

CoolMom—a West Seattle sustainability club—presents its parent-oriented “Think Outside the Car” project. Watch a video about the program, nibble on snacks, and learn more about green parenthood. Child care provided; donations requested.

CoolMom's 'Think Outside the Car' Celebration, Mon Dec 17, 6:30–8:30pm, Fauntleroy Church UCC, 9140 California Ave SW, West Seattle, free.
