PubliCalendar: Low-Income Housing in Lake City, High-End Dining in Crown Hill

By Erica C. Barnett October 5, 2012

Friday's PubliCalendar picks for political and civic nerds.

Fire Station 39 Open House

The city wants to turn the decommissioned Fire Station 39 in Lake City into a one-stop shop for low-income Seattle residents, including housing and community services. Neighbors, predictably, have protested the proposal, arguing (in the memorable words of one resident) that their neighborhood is "often described as Little Beirut." Have your say, or just learn more about the proposal, at this weekend's community meeting on the project; if you can't make it Saturday, there's a second meeting coming up at 6 pm on Monday, October 15.

Fire Station 39 Open House, Sat, Oct 6, 11:30 am–2:30 pm, Nathan Hale High School cafeteria, 10750 30th Ave N, Free

An Incredible Feast

Support the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance's low-income programs, community events, local food education, and work advocating for farmers while sampling local food (from restaurants like Carmelita, Matt's in the Market, Allium, Campagne, and the Boat Street Cafe) and wines. Hosted by terra plata chef Tamara Murphy.

An Incredible Feast, Sat, Oct 6, 5:00 pm ,Swanson's Nursery, 9701 15th Ave NW, $125

Check out solar homes across Seattle (yes, it's possible here!) at this year's annual Solar Home Tour. Kickoff and information is in Greenwood, and the tour features homes across the city.
