PubliCalendar: Belltown Gets a Community Center, Sonics Fans Get Free Drinks
Today’s PubliCalendar picks for political nerds:
Belltown Community Center Open House
Thirteen years ago, Seattle voters approved a levy to build new community centers. After years of bureaucratic snafus, false starts, and skyrocketing land prices, Belltown has finally gotten a community center of its own, a 6,000-square-foot space at the corner of 5th and Bell. Celebrate with the community tomorrow at an open house featuring tours, live music, guest speakers, and refreshments.
Belltown Community Center Open House, Friday, September 14, 4-8:30pm, 415 Bell St, Free.
State Legislative Preview (and Review)
Josh raved yesterday about the opportunity to hear Sen. Lisa Brown (D-3, Spokane) and Sen. Joseph Zarelli (R-18, Ridgefield) give a candid assessment of Olympia’s upcoming session, calling this a “must for political junkies.” KUOW host Ross Reynolds moderates, and the audience will have a chance to ask questions.
Outgoing Senators Give Inside Scoop, Town Hall, 1119 8th Avenue, $5, Thursday, September 13,7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm)
Free drinks on Chris Hansen
To celebrate the arena deal he's on the verge of striking with the Seattle City Council, Hansen has promised to buy the first round for anyone who shows up at F.X. McCrory’s between five and seven pm tonight.
Free Drinks on Chris Hansen, F.X. McCrory’s Steak Chop & Oyster House, 491 Occidental Ave. S, Thursday, September 13, 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. Free.
Meet this Toby Crittenden Guy
If you’re young and progressive and you want to get involved in local politics, the Washington Bus is your gateway drug. And the pusher is Bus director Toby Crittenden.
The Bus, which organizes get-out-the-vote drives for lefty causes such as supporting R-74, the gay marriage measure, is holding an open house at Bus HQ on Capitol Hill tonight, dinner included.
Washington Bus Welcome Wagon, 1100 E. Union St., Thursday, September 13, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. Free.
