By Josh Feit September 6, 2012

Our daily picks for civic nerds:

Getting Over Oil

As part of Seattle Center's "Next 50" celebration, the Intiman Theater is presenting a parade of impressive speakers at an all-day forum on new transportation technologies. The speakers—including the former Vice Chair of GM, Bob Lutz, and the head of Climate Solutions, KC Golden—will talk about how 21st century batteries, info tech, new-fangled communications, futuristic materials, and electric cars will help us get over oil.

Beyond Oil: Transforming Transportation, Friday, September 7, all day, Intiman Theater at Seattle Center, $25 ($10 for students)

And don't forget about today's PubliCalendar pick:

Bike Safety in Numbers

I Bike SEA, a North Seattle group that wants to destigmatize biking, is holding a kickoff party for its two-week project: Organizing groups of new bikers in North Seattle ("especially you, ladies," the announcement says) to commute to work downtown together in "bike pools."

The kickoff event, in Pioneer Square's Nord Alley, will feature biking tips and refreshments. And a maiden bike pool commute back to North Seattle.

I Bike SEA Kick-Off, Thursday, September 6 at 5:30, Nord Alley in Pioneer Square, 314 1st S.
