Whale Warrior

Activist Paul Watson is in hot water with Japan after his numerous efforts at ending illegal whaling.

“I am presently in a place on this planet where I feel comfortable, a safe place far away from the scheming -nations who have turned a blind eye to the exploitation of our oceans…. We have confronted the Japanese whalers for eight seasons and we have humiliated them at sea and more importantly we have frustrated their illegal profiteering from the killing of whales…. I can serve my clients better at sea than in a -Japanese prison cell and I intend to do just that.”

—Paul Watson, founder of the Friday Harbor–based antiwhaling group Sea Shepherd, speaking from an undisclosed location after confirming that he had fled house arrest in Germany in July 2012. Japan seeks Watson’s arrest for incidents related to Sea Shepherd’s ongoing interference with Japanese whaling vessels.
