PubliCalendar: Yesler Terrace and Steven Johnson

By Duke Sullivan August 7, 2012

Tomorrow’s PubliCalendar picks for political nerds.

Public Hearing on Yesler Terrace.

The Seattle City Council is hosting a public hearing to give people a chance to speak their mind about the $290 million vision for the redevelopment of the Seattle Housing Authority's Yesler Terrace housing development.

If approved, the proposed rezoning of Yesler Terrace will add thousands of new housing units, including both low-income and market-rate apartments. Low-income housing activists have expressed concern about how quickly SHA will create replacement housing for existing units; the fact that the city is spending money from its housing levy for replacement low-income units instead of new ones; and the development's ability to rent out all its units.

Yesler Terrace Public Hearing, Wednesday. August 8, 5:30 PM, City Council, Seattle City Hall, 600 Fourth Ave.

Steven Johnson: Political Progress in a Networked Age

Is a new model for political change on the rise? Author Steven Johnson believes so. His book Future Perfect says  a new model of networked political change is making progress and solutions possible.

Steven Johnson: Political Progress in a Networked Age, Wednesday, August 8, 7:30-9:00 pm, Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave. Free.
