PubliCalendar: Testify at Important Sound Transit Board Meeting
Thursday's PubliCalendar picks for political nerds.
Sound Transit Board Meeting
It's agenda item F, but it's important. At issue: Sound Transit's development strategy. Should they be building transit oriented development around light rail stations or should they be building parks?
We're pro-TOD and pro-parks.
But we've also read Jane Jacobs. Winner: TOD. The point of light rail is to create vibrant urban communities by housing people along transit lines. Parks are cool, but not when they constitute a disconnect. Missing an opportunity to put housing and commercial development along the light rail line would be a major policy error.
Testify in favor of TOD around the UW light rail stop.
Sound Transit Board Meeting, Thursday, August 23, 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm, Union Station, Ruth Fisher Boardroom, 401 S. Jackson St.
Streetscape 2.0
Before you go to the Sound Transit board meeting to testify, get indoctrinated in the tenets of smart urban living to hear about how streets are for people too. Great City, the non-profit (started back in the day by Mayor Mike McGinn) is presenting an update on local streetscape projects that prioritize pedestrian rights, or rights of way.
Streetscape 2.0, Thursday, August 23, 12:00-1:30 pm, Great City HQ, 1301 1st Ave.
