PubliCalendar: Seattle's Streetcar, Past and Future
Tomorrow's PubliCalendar picks for political nerds.
In 1941, the city of Seattle tore up its citywide network of streetcar tracks and sold them for scrap. Now, we're building a new streetcar on Capitol Hill. What changed in those 70-plus years? And what does the future hold for streetcars in Seattle? Find out, and join the conversation about Seattle's streetcar future, at this Museum of History and Industry-sponsored free event on Capitol Hill tomorrow.
History Cafe: Public Transportation, Thursday, August 16, 7:00 pm-8:00 pm, Roy Street Coffee & Tea, 700 Broadway Ave. E. Free.
Seattle Works' Global Get-Together
Join Seattle Works, Crooked Trails, and the Young Professionals International Network to meet folks who are involved in global and local community programs and to learn about an upcoming community service trip to Peru.

And don’t forget about today’s PubliCal pick:
The Washington Environmental Council’s Coal Hard Truth Forum
The Washington Environmental Council has been working with Power Past Coal to raise awareness about what they call an environmentally devastating proposal to build several new freight terminals to export coal from the Rockies to China. If all the terminals are built, Washington and Oregon would eventually export 150 million or more tons of coal every single year. In Bellingham alone, the proposed new terminal would mean as many as 18 round-trip trains every day, with 125 cars per train.
Coal Hard Truth Forum, Wednesday, August 15, 6:30 pm. Cleveland High School, 5511 15th Ave S, Room 1201 Beacon Hill, Free.
