McKenna Aide Resigns over Racist, Ageist Tweets

By Erica C. Barnett July 18, 2012

Kathlyn Ehl, a policy aide to Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna, has resigned over anti-Asian and ageist tweets, KING-5's Robert Mak (among many others) has reported.

Late last year, Ehl sent out a tweet reading, "If it takes you an entire green light to walk in front of my car GET A WHEELCHAIR #toooldtowalk." Then, in January, she tweeted, “shut up and speak english #asians.”

Since then, she has shut down her Twitter account.

In a statement, McKenna campaign spokesman Randy Pepple said, "“I felt it was important to provide an opportunity for our Asian American Coalition leaders, who have spent countless hours over the last year working to advance our campaign in their community, to let Kathlyn know how hurtful her comments were to them." He added, "Life teaches us difficult lessons, and sometimes at a very young age. My hope is that she will find some benefit from having learned this lesson now, as it will undoubtedly be a long-lasting one."
