Mad Women

By Josh Feit March 26, 2012

Editor's note: This post was heavily edited by Erica C. Barnett while Josh was distracted by THEESatisfaction's new album.

We've added a new picture to the "Wall of Women" here at PubliCola HQ. (That's Debbie Harry on the left, by the way.)

I just loved the Shepard Fairey illustration of Gloria Steinem circa 1971 that accompanied last week's Sunday NYT story about how the women's movement is missing a modern-day Steinem. I think it's because the illo reminds me of the hot-next-door-neighbor-mom back when I was a little kid in 1971.

I also think the article answers its own question, by the way, by quoting Rebecca Traister, who for my money, is the most insightful feminist pundit out there.

[Editor's note: Josh is forgetting: Echidne
, Katha Pollitt, Jill Filopivic, Jessica Valenti
, Melissa McEwan, Amanda Marcotte, Sady Doyle... Point being, I guess, that the feminist "movement" isn't---as it was in 1971---defined by Time magazine. Instead, it's defined by an online army. Or, to quote Rebecca Traister, "There is less likelihood of a leader like Steinem emerging today because it's far less likely for people to be looking in the same direction at the same time."]
