Robo (Press) Call

By Josh Feit December 16, 2011

I'm writing this post pretty much because I like the punchline.

A friend came up with it the other night at the bar while I was complaining to  him about the pour-and-stir media strategy used by the Democrats.

I was talking specifically about the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Erica and I have a standing joke every afternoon, when we get our daily press releases from the DCCC. It goes like this.

Me: Hey, Erica did you know that Representative Reichert lets billionaires skip out on taxes?

Erica: No. Hey, did you know that Representative Herrera Beutler lets billionaires skip out on taxes?

A day before that, our daily routine went like this.

Me: Hey Erica, did you know that the Supercommittee fails as Representative Reichert wants more tax breaks for ultra wealthy?

Erica: No. Hey, did you know that the Supercommittee fails as Representative Herrera Beutler wants more tax breaks for ultra wealthy?

It's pretty hard to take the Democrats' daily dis on their GOP counterparts seriously, much less write about them, when an attack on one Republican rep is an exact copy of an attack on another Republican rep.

When I say exact copy. I mean stuff like this. Every day.
Representative Dave Reichert Won’t Let FAA Shutdown Stop His Vacation

How do House Republicans plan on enjoying their summer recess? They certainly shouldn’t be flying. Representative Dave Reichert (WA-08) called it quits and closed shop in Washington without resolving the FAA shutdown, which has thousands of workers on furlough, safety inspectors working without pay, and millions lost in revenue by the day. Apparently, not even nearly 70,000 workers or costs of $30 million per day can get in the way of Representative Reichert and his vacation. The Senate will not pass the FAA extension with cuts to the Essential Air Service.

“First Representative Dave Reichert helped force an FAA shutdown, and now he thinks work is done in Washington without fixing it?” asked Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “How irresponsible can Reichert get? Representative Dave Reichert failed to do his job in Washington and now, it’s costing thousands of hard-working Americans theirs. It is outrageous that Representative Dave Reichert would put his vacation before the safety and economic security of Washington families.”

Earlier this year, Representative Dave Reichert voted to terminate the Essential Air Service even though the program critically supports rural airports across his district. Now, although Representative Reichert’s support for terminating EAS helped cause the FAA shutdown, he has absconded all responsibility and gone on recess. What’s worse is that the $200 million lost since the shutdown is more than the EAS requires to operate each year.

And then there's this:
Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler Won’t Let FAA Shutdown Stop Her Vacation

How do House Republicans plan on enjoying their summer recess? They certainly shouldn’t be flying. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03) called it quits and closed shop in Washington without resolving the FAA shutdown, which has thousands of workers on furlough, safety inspectors working without pay, and millions lost in revenue by the day. Apparently, not even nearly 70,000 workers or costs of $30 million per day can get in the way of Representative Herrera Beutler and her vacation.  The Senate will not pass the FAA extension with cuts to the Essential Air Service.

Punch line: The Democratic Party is a call center in India.
