A woman in her 50s was wounded in a shooting near the King County Courthouse shortly after 5:00 pm Monday evening.

Police officers armed with rifles were searching the area along Third Ave. between James St. and Yesler St. shortly after the shooting.

Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore says the woman was shot in her hip. A police spokesman was not aware of the shooting when contacted by PubliCola.

Update: SPD says they have shut down 3rd Ave. between Yesler and Jefferson. Police did not have information on what led to the shooting, or whether the injured woman was the intended target.

A witness at the scene of the shooting tells PubliCola they heard at least three gunshots, then a fifteen-second pause, followed by at least three more shots.

Update 2: A department source says police have surrounded an apartment building near 3rd and Yesler. Police believe the shooter may have opened fire from a window in the building. SWAT officers are heavily involved in the search for the gunman.

Update 3: Police are apparently getting ready to reopen streets in the area. No word on any arrests.
