1. Former Bush advisor and 2004 campaign architect Karl Rove is speaking at a Republican Party fundraiser at the Bellevue Westin tonight as the state Democrats and Republicans trade accusatory press releases—the Democrats tying McKenna, who will be on hand, to the Bush years—and the Republicans accusing the Democrats of trying to change the subject from current issues.
And the crossfire heated up yesterday when the Democrats announced that former Ambassador Joe Wilson will join the Democrats for a "Reject Rove Rally" outside the Bellevue event. Wilson, of course, was a main character during the dramatic and controversial Bush years. Wilson famously accused the Bush administration of faking claims about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and subsequently, Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, was suspiciously outed as a CIA operative—an act of apparent retaliation from the Rove White House.
The Republicans have responded to Wilson's planned guest appearance at the anti-Rove rally by saying Wilson has his facts wrong on Rove.
2. In case you missed it, yesterday afternoon, Jonah added more details to his story about the Seattle Police Department domestic violence officer who was arrested for domestic violence over the weekend.

3. Open government advocates are cheering yesterday's US District Court ruling that people who signed petitions to put 2009's R-71 on the ballot must be made public. (R-71 was an attempt by anti-gay rights conservatives to repeal the state's domestic partnership laws.) [pullquote]Rep. Here's a footnote on the decision: State Rep. Mark Miloscia (D-30, Federal Way), a labor Democrat who's sternly conservative on social issues, stalled a bill in the state legislature in 2010 that would have clarified state law, making it clear the signatures were part of the public record.
Democrat Miloscia sided with the Republicans against the bill preventing the Democrats from getting it out of committee.
Last month, Milsocia announced he's running for state auditor, an office that's dedicated to open government.
4. Speaking of the auditor's office: The Seattle Times is reporting that King County is going to bring felony and theft charges against Silas Potter, the former Seattle Public Schools employee who was implicated in a state audit of the district's minority contracting program. The audit showed a pattern of fraudulent billings totaling $1.8 million.

Department sources say within the last week, Sgt. Murray taught a domestic violence training class to other officers on the difference between felony and misdemeanor domestic violence incidents.

Police sources say the victim in this case also works for the department. We’re not providing any additional details about the victim or her position within SPD to protect her identity.
