Police Investigating Possible Murder-Suicide In West Seattle

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee October 19, 2011

An elderly couple were found dead in their West Seattle home this morning, in what police believe may be a murder-suicide.

According to SPD, a man called 911 shortly after 3:00 am, said he had shot his wife, and hung up.

Patrol officers, negotiators, and SWAT responded to the man's home near 50th Ave SW and SW Waite St, and spent several hours trying to reach the couple.

SWAT officers eventually entered the home, where they found the couple—who may be in the 70s—inside. The man had apparently shot his wife, and then himself.

Police tell PubliCola patrol officers are "familiar" with the man who called 911 this morning.

Police say it appears to be a murder-suicide, but detectives and the medical examiner will make the final call.
