Occupy Seattle Issues Demands

By Josh Feit October 12, 2011

Occupy Seattle issued a set of demands they say Mayor McGinn must meet in order for the group to take up his offer to move their encampment to City Hall. [pullquote]Occupy Seattle issues demands. No, not about the economy. About camping at City Hall.  [/pullquote]

Here they are:
1) To the Mayor

-- First and foremost, we demand that Mayor McGinn meet with nominated representatives of Occupy Seattle in order to discuss our long term goals.

2) Practical Demands
-- Four large tents for Medical, Kitchen, Supply and Info/Tactical
-- Twenty four hour parking at City Hall (One space for supply purposes)
-- Twenty four hour occupancy shelters for health and safety of protesters
-- Twenty four hour access to first floor of City Hall for access to restrooms, meetings & etc.
-- A written statement from Mayor McGinn regarding right to indefinite occupancy of City Hall site.

This list of demands has been so resolved and passed by the General Assembly of Occupy Seattle this Tuesday, October 11, 2011.

In this morning's Fizz, we published Mayor McGinn's latest statement on Occupy Seattle.

Here it is:
Last night we received a list of demands from Occupy Seattle for use of City Hall. We will engage in discussions with representatives of Occupy Seattle on the conditions for use of City Hall if there is interest from Occupy Seattle in doing so. What we agree to allow at City Hall must be consistent with what we would offer any group, and consistent with laws that govern use of public resources.

I have instructed the Parks Department and the Seattle Police Department to enforce the rules at Westlake Park, starting this morning. This includes prohibitions against camping and unpermitted activity. We are prepared to provide permits for First Amendment uses of Westlake Park during regular park hours.
