Most Anti-Car-Tab Money Comes from a Single North Seattle Developer
Although the anti-car-tab campaign paints itself as the true "progressive" side in the debate (on the grounds that the proposed $60 car tab is regressive and would hurt poor car owners), their funding comes primarily from a single North Seattle property owner and developer, Faye Garneau of the Aurora Ave. Merchants Association and Garneau Property Development.
The car-tab fee would pay for transit, bike, pedestrian, and road-maintenance improvements across Seattle.
As of this week, Garneau had contributed $13,000 to the anti-car tab cause, or nearly three-quarters of the campaign's total contributions. Her most recent large campaign contributions included $10,000 to the campaign to kill the monorail.
The other anti-car-tab campaign, Sidewalks and Streets for Seattle, has not reported any contributions or expenditures.
