Two men were injured in separate shootings over the weekend.
A man in his 30s was wounded in a shootout in South Seattle Saturday night.
On 9-4-11, at approximately 10:40 p.m., there were multiple reports of shots fired in the 7500 block of ML King. Citizens reported two males in their teens shooting at each other. The suspects then fled in their vehicles.
Officers arrived at the scene and located shell casings in two different calibers. A short time later a victim was brought up to Harborview Medical Center in one of the suspect’s vehicles.
Officers responded there and impounded the vehicle and took a statement from the 30-yr-old victim. The victim was grazed in the head by one round.
The suspects were described as 2 black males in their teens. The suspect’s vehicle was a white 90′s Chevy Caprice with tinted windows.
A 28-year-old man was also dropped off at Harborview after being shot in the chest. Gang detectives are investigating:
On September 2nd at approximately 4:40 p.m. the Harborview Medical Center Emergency Room called 911 to report that an adult male victim had been dropped off at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Patrol officers and Gang Unit detectives responded to the hospital and attempted to interview the 28-year-old victim, who was uncooperative with detectives.
The victim remains under treatment for his non-life-threatening injury. It has yet to be determined how the victim arrived at the emergency room.
Roughly 20 minutes earlier (at approximately 4:20 p.m.) officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3800 block of Rainier Avenue South. No suspects or victims were located in the subsequent area search related to that call.
It is unknown at this time if the two incidents are related.
Gang Unit detectives continue to actively investigate.
Some drunk d-bag kicked a Metro driver in the chest and was promptly removed from a bus in the International District:
On 9/3/11, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers responded to S. King and 8th Ave S. to investigate a disturbance on a Metro coach. Initially, the report was that the suspect was refusing to leave the coach.
When the officers arrived, they contacted the victim and learned that the suspect had already been asked to leave the coach once. He had subsequently run back onto the coach forcing the driver to ask him to leave again.
During a verbal argument with the operator, the suspect kicked the driver in the chest. The driver was forced to defend himself and physically remove the man from the coach.
The suspect still refused to leave the area, demanding reentry to the coach. The officers took him into custody and booked him into King County Jail for Investigation of Assault. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated at the time of arrest.
SPD has apparently also stepped up patrols in Cal Anderson Park (bold is SPD's):
On September 3rd an East Precinct uniformed, two-officer foot beat patrolled Cal Anderson Park for their entire shift. Among the officers’ foot patrol activities included: assisting an injured citizen, breaking up a verbal disturbance (no arrest), a liquor citation issued, a Park Exclusion issued, the discovery of a subject with a Department of Corrections (DOC) violation (DOC was notified but no arrest was made), two intoxicated subjects were transported to detox via SUV, and several open container of liquor warnings were issued. The officers received very positive feedback from park users and the public in general. On 9/4/11, at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to an assault in progress, at Cal Anderson Park. The complainant explained that the suspect had knocked the victim to the ground and was stomping on his head.
As officers were responding to the scene, the dispatcher broadcast that the suspect was leaving the area on foot and provided a description. Officers contacted the suspect near the north end of the park and detained him. A witness identified the suspect in a show-up and the officers arrested him.
Investigation at the scene revealed that the victim and the suspect were part of a group of apparently transient youth who were congregating in the park. They got into an argument, and the suspect struck the victim, knocking him ground. He then proceeded to kick, punch and stomp him. The beating apparently only stopped because the group heard sirens and advised the suspect to flee.
For his part, the suspect stated that the victim had threatened him during the argument, telling him that he had a knife. Officers did recover a sheathed military bayonet from the victim’s belt, as he was being treated by Seattle Fire personnel. However, witnesses at the scene stated that the victim never threw a punch or acted to defend himself.
At the scene, SFD medics indicated that the victim sustained life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center (HMC). Once at HMC, the victim’s prognosis improved. He had extensive skull fractures, but he was in stable condition at the time of this report.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of assault.
On 9/5/11, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Officers were walking through Cal Anderson Park after closing to remove any trespassers. A man walked up to the officers and asked for a ride to jail. When asked why, the man said he had a warrant.
The 10,000 dollar King County PD warrant was verified and the man was transported to King County jail per his wishes.
