City Employee Used City Car for Trip to Snoqualmie Casino

By Erica C. Barnett September 6, 2011

Lolita Simonyan, an employee at the city's Human Services Department, has acknowledged driving a city-owned car to the Snoqualmie Casino in June, where she redeemed a "Wednesday coupon" around 1:30 in the afternoon after wrapping up an official appointment in Greenwood.

An attentive driver noticed Simonyan driving in a city of Seattle motor pool car along I-90 "at a high rate of speed" and followed her to the casino parking lot, where the driver snapped a photo of her getting out of the city car and going in to the casino.

According to a memo
by city ethics and elections commission director Wayne Barnett, "There is evidence that, while at the casino, Simonyan redeemed a 'Wednesday coupon' at 1:24 p.m. The coupon would have expired at 1:30."

Simonyan has agreed to pay the city a $365 fine for misusing city property.

HSD spokesman Gary Ireland told PubliCola, "The department is aware of this matter. The Department policy is not to comment on employee disciplinary matter."
