Oregonian: Tacks Thrown in Path of STP Bike Ride
The Oregonian reports
that someone threw tacks along a four-mile stretch of Route 30 between Scappoose and Northwest Cornelius Pass Road in Oregon during the Cascade Bicycle Club's annual Seattle to Portland ride last weekend, damaging tires and sending one cyclist to the hospital.
According to Cascade's message board, the tacks were targeted specifically at the bike lane on Highway 30.
One rider fell because of the tacks, was knocked unconscious and was taken to a local hospital, [Cascade spokeswoman M.J. Kelly] said.
Many rode on undaunted, however. Some patched their tires with the repair kits they were carrying, and some had spare tubes to replace the punctured ones, she said.
