"Incendiary Device" Used To Torch Church Dumpster

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee July 12, 2011

Police are investigating another arson fire in the Ballard area after someone set fire to a church dumpster Monday night.

Around 8:30 p.m. last night, firefighters and police were called to a church at 11th NW and NW 65th to investigate the blaze, which started when someone tossed a "combustible or incendiary device" into a large metal recycling container in a church parking lot, says SPD spokesman Mark Jamieson.

Police couldn't find any witnesses or suspects at the scene.

The Arson/Bomb Squad was notified about the incident.

While the dumpster was not seriously damaged, this is the second suspicious fire in the Ballard area since this weekend. On July 8th, a truck was torched near 3rd and NW 95th in Crown Hill, just north of Ballard.

Police say they don't know if the two incidents are connected.
