Percolations at the Sorrento

By Josh Feit June 20, 2011

Mining the Annette Hanshaw and Ruth Etting
catalogs of ghost pop and 1920s blues, Miss Rose & Her Rhythm Percolators played at First Hill's Sorrento Hotel Fireside Room on Friday night.

I met some friends there who—already locked down in a boisterous conversation when I arrived—recommended a Vesper so I could catch up quickly. [pullquote]The cornet swayed in time—at 78 RPMs—with Rose's fine crooning.[/pullquote]

All the tables around us—with a few folks decked out in period getups—were hunkered down in equally noisy confabs.

The Rhythm Percolators provided an elegant backdrop—one that drew me out of my seat and over to the center of the room several times, where I could tune out the din and the enjoy the effect of the cornet as it swayed in time—at 78 RPMs—with Rose's fine crooning.

They play at the Sorrento again on July 1st.
