Kemper Freeman Gives Eyman Half a Million

By Erica C. Barnett June 10, 2011

Kemper Freeman, the Bellevue developer and light rail opponent, has contributed $500,000 to Tim Eyman's latest initiative campaign, Eyman announced this afternoon. The proposal, Initiative 1125, would prohibit the state from spending toll revenues on anything other than the road or bridge they're collected on---preventing, for example, tolls on SR-520 from being spent on transit or on improvements to I-90.

It would also require all tolls to be approved by the state legislature, and would prohibit variable toll rates. Currently, some roads have higher tolls during rush hour than the rest of the day.

Freeman and his wife Betty have also given generously to two candidates for Bellevue City Council, Patty Mann and Aaron Laing, who are opposing pro-light-rail incumbents Claudia Balducci and John Chelminiak.

Eyman, who uses paid signature gatherers, has until July 8 to collect 241,000 signatures for his latest proposal.
