McKenna's Office Addresses Paid Sick Leave Debate
After getting a call from Attorney General Rob McKenna's office this morning in response to our Morning Fizz item, The Washington Restaurant Association recanted
its initial report on McKenna's supposed comments about teaming up with the WRA to fight Seattle City Council member Nick Licata's paid sick leave proposal.
Okay, but in the wake of all the confusion, we decided to ask McKenna ourselves where he was on paid sick leave.
McKenna's spokesman Dan Sytman started out with a stock answer: "Our office doesn't have a role in that."
But he did elaborate saying that "He [McKenna] tends to advocate for programs that create jobs. If it doesn't create jobs—and the sick leave proposal wouldn't—then he'd have questions about that."
Erica broke the news on the council's pending paid leave proposal last week, and it's been a hot topic locally ever since. It's also been hot in Wisconsin, where Governor Scott Walker just shot down Milwaukee's voter-approved paid sick leave policy.
