Morning Fizz
It Gets Worse for the Democrats
1. As we reported yesterday afternoon
, Republican Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna beats Democratic U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee in a Survey USA poll that looks at potential 2012 governor's race match ups. (McKenna also beats Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire while Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert beats Inslee and Gregoire as well.)
It gets worse for the Democrats: When you dig into the details, the numbers in the McKenna/Inslee match up (widely viewed as the most likely contest) favor McKenna among key demographics: McKenna beats Inslee among Independent voters 56 to 29. He also beats Inslee in the Seattle metro area (47-43) and in Western Washington (48-40.)

Inslee wins very few categories, though he does win among women voters (46-41), seniors (48-46), and of course among Democrats (81-11) and Liberals (79-13). Moderates go to McKenna (47-41).
2. Former PI writer Dorothy Parvaz, who now works for Al Jazeera, is missing in Syria, where she flew this weekend to cover the unrest. Free Dorothy Parvaz Facebook page here .
3. Two bills we've been following in Olympia—one to expand family planning services and one to undo the indoor smoking ban for cigar bars—are set to pass out of the senate ways and means committee this afternoon and get queued up for a floor vote.
4. Also in the ways and means committee today, there is a hearing on the latest version of the liquor distribution bill .
Once a key element of the house budget —the initial bill privatized the state's liquor distribution operation raising an estimated $300 million—the proposal, sponsored by GOP state senators Mike Hewitt (R-16, Walla Walla) and Jospeh Zarelli (R-18, Ridgefield), now simply establishes a non-binding competitive bidding process to see what kind of offers the state actually gets.
