Last Night
Cross This One Off Your SIFF List
Last night, I saw a 9:30 SIFF show at the Harvard Exit, an award-winning Egyptian drama called Microphone.
Any movie that takes place in Egypt seems heavy these days. (It's sort of like watching any US flick from the late 60s and 70s; all of them laden with the political and cultural revolutions that were going down at the time.)
Unfortunately, Microphone, about a 30-something guy who discovers the percolating underground music and arts scene in Alexandria, is too overt in its attempt to make political metaphors (the minister of culture is a hypocrite!).
Coupled with a vague plot, too much sulking, and this is the worst thing, underwhelming music, I was disappointed with my first SIFF outing.
No problem. There's plenty more movies to check out .
