Cops, Superheroes Looking For Arson Suspect In The University District

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee May 3, 2011

Seattle police and several members of the Rain City Superhero Movement are searching the University District this morning, looking for an arson suspect.

Just before 1:00 am, fire crews were called to 45th and University after a man apparently set a newspaper box on fire.

According to local masked do-gooder Phoenix Jones—who was patrolling the University District with his comrades Ghost and Pitch Black when the fires were set—the suspect may have also torched a newspaper box at 43rd and University, and started a small blaze in a dumpster in an alleyway off the Ave.

When we spoke with Jones just after 1:00 AM, he and his crew of caped crusaders were driving up and down the Ave looking for the suspect.

Police say the suspect was wearing a gold baseball cap and a purple UW jacket.

It's not clear whether police made an arrest.

Officers at the scene notified the department's Arson/Bomb Squad about the fires. The Seattle Fire Department's arson investigator was also called out.

More in the morning.
