NYT Department of Corrections, Tunnel Edition
The New York Times got a few things wrong in its recent story
on the deep-bore tunnel, and we're not just talking about Gov. Chris Gregoire's reactionary, ignorant comments characterizing the surface/transit option as "social engineering" against cars.

An article last Sunday about the planned construction of a tunnel in Seattle to replace an aging viaduct misstated the level of support in a recent poll for another proposal, to repair the viaduct or replace it with a new one. It drew the support of 38 percent of respondents, not most of them. The article also misstated the cost of demolition of the viaduct and construction of a tunnel. It is $3.1 billion, not $4.2 billion, which includes the cost of nearby construction related to the project.
