McGinn Appoints Housing Office Director

By Erica C. Barnett March 9, 2011

Contrary to housing advocates' fears that Mayor Mike McGinn planned to eliminate the city's Office of Housing to save money, this afternoon, the mayor appointed Rick Hooper, a housing office veteran who has served as interim director since last year, as permanent head of the office. Last year, the city council passed a resolution outlining the characteristics they wanted to see in a new housing director---a preemptive move in anticipation of McGinn's potential proposal to eliminate the office.

In a brief (and oddly tepid) statement, McGinn said, "I am impressed with Rick’s dedication to Seattle residents and his management of funds from the voter approved Housing Levies."

Hooper will have to be confirmed by the city council.
