City Hall
Afternoon Fizz: "What's Going to Follow Next Will Be Bizarre"
This morning, city council member Tim Burgess found himself as the only council member left at the table at the end of a two-hour public safety committee meeting. With one item still on the agenda, he made a motion (to himself) to vote on the legislation, voted on it, made a motion to put the motion on Monday's full council agenda and recommended that it pass.
There was no discussion on the bill (an amendment to a program that will allow the city to put a "boot" on cars owned by people with four or more unpaid parking tickets)---apparently, Burgess didn't feel like talking to himself.
Addressing the nonexistent assembled public, Burgess said, "Everything I just did is consistent with the rules of the council," adding jokingly, "This is democracy at its best."
The legislation moved to Monday's full council meeting unanimously, 1-0.
