The Morning Blotter: Soccer Player Brutally Beaten By Rival Team During Match

By Jonah Spangenthal-Lee February 24, 2011

A female soccer player was brutally attacked by members of a rival team during a match at a West Seattle park last week.

On February 20th, two National Soccer League teams were playing a match in Hiawatha Park in West Seattle when the female player got into a dispute with a 20-year-old woman on the opposing team.

The 20-year-old suspect attacked the victim, before 10 other players from her team joined in.

Members of the team attacked the victim, knocking her to the ground. The players then stomped the woman, kicked her in the head and shins, punched and scratched her face, and pulled out her hair.

The father of one of the players also apparently joined in the melee, attacking the victim.

When two of the victim's teammates tried to intervene, the group of players attacked them, too, according to a police report.

The suspects then fled the scene before police arrived.

Medics arrived on scene and transported the woman to Harborview.

Seattle police contacted the league owner, who said he could provide police with information on the suspects.

The report doesn't clearly indicate what led to the brutal assault.
