PI.com: Hempfest Sues City to Delay Bike Overpass Construction

By Erica C. Barnett February 11, 2011

The PI.com reports that Hempfest---the annual pro-pot festival in Myrtle Edwards Park on the downtown waterfront---has sued the city over the construction of a bike and pedestrian overpass that will connect the park to lower Queen Anne. Hempfest alleges that the city deliberately scheduled the construction of the overpass to interfere with the festival. They want the city to delay the construction---which has been in the works for years---until after the festival, which starts August 20.

Additionally, the PI reports, Hempfest organizers are suing because the city denied their permit application to move to Seattle Center. The PI quotes Mayor Mike McGinn's spokesman Aaron Pickus saying that McGinn "supports Hempfest," but that Seattle Center is often rented out several years in advance.
