City Hall
Another Jean Godden Opponent?
Update: Classen confirmed on Monday afternoon that he is considering a run for Godden's seat. "I'm going to take some time to think it through and make sure it's the right time for me and my family," Classen said Monday.
No confirmation from the would-be candidate yet, but word is that King County Deputy Prosecutor Maurice Classen---the guy who ran last year's unsuccessful campaign for King County Proposition 1, the public-safety sales tax---may be planning a run against city council member Jean Godden.
Classen hasn't returned a call for comment. However, political consultant Christian Sinderman, a friend of Classen's, says Classen "has been looking around at various city council races." Conveniently enough, Sinderman has clients in every other race---meaning that if Sinderman's going to be Classen's consultant, Godden's is the only race he'd be running for. (Sinderman does say that Classen could hire another consultant.) At 33, Classen would be the youngest member of the city council by far.
Meanwhile, Seattle Port Commission member Rob Holland is reportedly not running for Godden's seat, as a fellowship in Europe this year will make it difficult for him to campaign in the crowded race.
