Wiggins Closes In on Sanders' Lead

By Erica C. Barnett November 4, 2010

State Supreme Court Justice Richard Sanders maintained a narrow lead over challenger Charlie Wiggins in the latest statewide vote count this afternoon, but Wiggins narrowed the lead substantially---from a margin of 25,093 votes statewide to 14,413. In King County, home to more than two of every five state votes that are still uncounted, Wiggins now leads by more than 51 percent. Sanders, a gay-marriage opponent whose actions on the bench have often been controversial, got himself in trouble shortly before the election when he suggested that African Americans are incarcerated at a disproportionate rate because they have a "crime problem."
