Rossi Says Race too Close to Call; Dems Are Jubilant

By Erica C. Barnett November 2, 2010

In Bellevue, Patty Murray challenger Dino Rossi just took the stage and said tonight's election results---which currently have Murray at 50.6 percent and Rossi at 49.4 percent---are inconclusive.

"We've got a lot of counting still to do," he said, following up by thanking his supporters for "the prayers that you all sent to me" and promising to return to the stage when more results come in.

However, at the downtown Seattle Westin, Democratic Murray staffers were jubilant about the results. Although neither staffers for Murray's campaign nor for her Senate office would go on the record, they noted that of about 45 percent of the statewide vote still outstanding, around two-thirds are in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties, where they say Murray has a clear lead.

So far, though, that's only holding true in King County, where Murray currently has 62 percent to Rossi's 38. In Snohomish, she has 51 percent to Rossi's 49 percent; and in Pierce, Murray and Rossi are split nearly 50-50; Murray has a lead there of less than 300 votes.
