Live from Bellevue
Bryce McKay is at GOP central: The Bellevue Hilton in downtown Bellevue.
He reports there there are about 100 people on hand in the main ballroom and Luke Esser, state party chair just took the stage.
Esser instructs people to pick up the script in the hallway and do GOTV calls up to the last minute. (About 20 people grab scripts and hit the super bright hallway to make calls from a script that asks people: "Can Dino Rossi and Dave Reichert count on your vote today?")
Then Esser gets off a good one-liner: "Close elections like these can be won by a vote .. or two or... 129" —a reference to their man of the night, U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi, who lost a nail biter to Gov. Chris Gregoire in 2004 after a couple of recounts and just may have to go through it again.
"I love Dino rossi. He won for governor the first time," a Rossi fan says. "I don't think it's possible for him to get a fair election in this state."
Don't stop Believing is playing on the loudspeakers as Esser keeps pitching: "Please let me implore you to interrupt your socializing for just a few minutes to maximize the chances of our candidates."
Then he's interrupted by cheers. CNN has just announced that Sen. Russ Feingold is going down, 58-42.
Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" comes on. Don't ask don't tell, Freddie, they'll never know.
Meanwhile, Bryce reports that the scene in the hallway is no longer about GOTV phone calls: "Just passed two ladies, I'm pretty sure were praying in the hallway."
UPDATE: 8:03 PM:
Cheers and applause as CNN officially projects turnover of House to GOP. Everybody is on their feet. ... "Hold on, sorry, Fox," Bryce corrects. "They switched to FOX somewhere along the way."
