Democratic State Senate Races Still In the Air
As Josh noted yesterday, the national GOP's "red wave" didn't manage to sweep US Sen. Patty Murray (whose Republican opponent, Dino Rossi, just conceded) down with it. However, it may still take down some of her Democratic counterparts in the state senate, where several Eastside suburban Democrats were either out of the game or struggling as of this afternoon's vote count.
In the 47th District, as we reported this morning, incumbent Sen. Claudia Kauffman has conceded to Republican Joe Fain. In the 6th, Sen. Chris Marr conceded to GOP challenger Michael Baumgartner yesterday. In the 45th, incumbent Sen. Eric Oemig is losing to GOP challenger Andy Hill, 48 to 52. In the 41st, Sen. Randy Gordon is losing 48 to 52 to Republican challenger Steve Litzow.
A few Democratic Eastside senators are ahead of their Republican challengers, but barely. In the 48th, Sen. Rodney Tom has outpaced challenger Gregg Bennett, 51 to 49. (Bennett was winning on election night). In the 44th, Sen. Steve Hobbs has slightly increased his lead over Republican Dave Schmidt, 50.14 to 49.86. (Yesterday, the margin was two votes.) And in the 30th, Sen. Tracey Eide has maintained a 51-49 lead over GOP challenger Tony Moore.
