County, Metro Union Approve Contract

By Erica C. Barnett November 19, 2010

By a vote of more than 69 percent, the King County Metro union ratified a contract with the county today under which they'll receive no cost-of-living increase next year, but will get raises in 2012 (0.7 percent) and 2013 (0.6 percent). The union also agreed to a zero-percent minimum wage increase; previously, the annual "floor" provided a guaranteed increase of 2 percent.

Annually, the cost savings from the new contract will allow Metro to preserve 130,000 hours of bus service per year, county executive Dow Constantine said in a statement.

I covered the details of the contract earlier this month.

Today's announcement leaves just one large county union that has not agreed to wage or other concessions: The King County Sheriff's deputies, who have refused requests from the executive and Sheriff Sue Rahr to revisit their 5 percent annual wage increase.
