They Shoot Herons, Don't They?
Seattle police arrested two young men and a teen Sunday on allegations that they shot a blue heron at a North Seattle park.
A witness reported that the three males – two men aged 22 and 19, and a 17-year-old boy – were wandering Meadowbrook Park at about 1:20 p.m. with a pellet gun equipped with a scope, said Detective Renee Witt, a Seattle police spokeswoman.
Shortly after confronting the group, the witness said reported hearing a loud bang, Witt said.
The heron was found near a pond with a broken wing, Witt said. Animal control officers attempted to capture the bird but could not; the heron was not expected to survive its injuries.
