Prosecutors Charge Man For Attempted Nude Boat Heist
King County prosecutors have charged David Anthony Neilson for his alleged naked crime spree at a Lake Union rowing club last week.
Around 6:15pm on September 29th witnesses reported seeing Neilson, 26, attempting to drag several boats belonging to the Lake Washington Rowing Club on Northlake Ave into the water.
According to court documents, Neilson paddled out into the lake, took off all of his clothes, and threw them in the water.
Moments later, Neilson began calling for help as his boat drifted around Lake Union, towards a sail boat.
Neilson grabbed a pylon and held on until SPD's Harbor Patrol arrived and ordered him onto a nearby dock. "Neilson seemed cold and confused," court records say.
Police arrested Neilson for the attempted boat theft and took him to the King County Jail where, police records say, he was "out of control" during booking.
Court records indicate Neilson has prior convictions for malicious mischief, rioting, obstruction, malicious mischief, auto theft, and assault (five times!) in King County.
